Sorting and Counting Systems

These tools assist the laundry in the process of sorting and counting incoming linen from its clients, both before and after the washing cycle.

The sorting serves to optimise the continuous batch washer work cycles, while the precision counting allows the linen stored on the clients' premises to be monitored constantly.

Sorting phase in a Montanari S.r.l. piece counter
The different-sized holes in the piece counter system allow items of any size to be sorted (e.g. towels or double sheets)

There are two different versions of the piece counter that can be installed, which depend on the work mode:

Manual piece counter
The manual piece counters are suitable for laundries with small to medium-sized counting requirements (up to 900 kg/ hour).

They are made up of the selection belt conveyor, onto which the operator pours the dirty linen for sorting purposes, and the actual piece counter.

The laundry is carried along until it is positioned in front of the belt lanes or in front of the pits, where it then undergoes a selection process.
Each lane (or pit) can be assigned a different product.

Depending on the model, the piece counter may also feature an automatic counting function which counts different items at the same time.

Automatic piece counters

The automatic piece counter, with pits, is designed for laundries with greater counting requirements (up to 900 kg / hour).

Thanks to special software which monitors the laundering process, the station enables the laundry to be carried straight to the continuous batch washer without any staff intervention required.

The collection sacks, positioned underneath the sorting pits, are not opened until the weight set in the control software is reached, ensuring the conveyor belts carry the amount of articles programmed for laundering straight to the washing stage accumulation area.

Automatic piece counter: when the linen inside each sack reaches the load weight for the continuous batch washer to which it is assigned, the hole opens and sends the laundry to the overhead system via conveyor belts or overhead conveyors.

For businesses whose laundering systems only handle 'homogenous' sacks of laundry (i.e. containing one type of article only), Montanari S.r.l. manufactures temporary storage systems linked to the automatic piece counters, which can be used to hold onto half loads.

Automatic shuttle linked to the piece counter: during the counting stage, when the sum of the weight of an article and the weight of the temporary storage cell (shuttle) containing the said article reaches the threshold at which the cell is sent to the overhead system, both are unloaded in the direction of the system.
